7 Ways To Prepare For The November Film Release Of ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’

It seems as if Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II was just in theaters yesterday, but now we have only a few short months to prepare our minds and hearts to enter again into the wizarding world of JK Rowling for the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

1. Pottermore

Not all of us are lucky enough to receive a formal letter of invitation to join Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, so in lieu of this, go take matters into your own hands. Here, you will not only be sorted into a Hogwarts house, but you will also “choose” a wand (remember, the wand chooses the wizard), and fulfill a sorting into the American houses, either: Thunderbird, Pukwudgie, Horned Serpent, or Wampus. If these houses are new to you (for shame!) catch up here.

 2. Read

Read, and re-read. And when I say “read,” I mean the source: Harry’s books. Go back to where the love began. Read aloud, read in transit, read before bed, read during dinner, basically, relieve those days before you had laid eyes on the stories when each word was a precious drop of information to be absorbed voraciously and lovingly. If you have a friend who has never read the books (shocking!)–as you re-read them yourself–add post-it notes throughout with comments for your friend, such as, “This is my favorite part!”and “Love Hermione here”or “Remember this name from before?”

3. Experience

JK Rowling said, “…the one book that very much influenced Harry Potter was Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge . . . I liked all the food descriptions and I try to put lots of descriptions about meals into all the Harry books.”  The food descriptions in Harry Potter paint beautiful pictures that we all remember better than we remember the spells. Wingardium leviosa doesn’t stand a chance against cauldron cakes. The wonderment of what those things might be like is finally at an end. Indulge in these recipes to feel like a true Hogwartsian.

4. Learn

What IS this new story, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? Are we allowed to fall in love with it the way we did with Harry Potter? Would that be blasphemy? Let’s get educated. First off, read, read, read, again!

Second, learn more. Pottermore has a wealth of information and visuals for us!

7. The Day Has Come

Breathe in through the nose for four seconds.

Breathe out for four seconds.

Repeat until you are calm enough to go to the theater and partake in the film like a sane human. That way, no one will suspect what you really are…
