Feel The Joy Of Spring With These 7 Books

Springtime is a season that has joy and bright colors written all over it. Easter takes place during spring, new flowers begin to emerge, and, in a majority of places, the weather is simply breathtaking. If you’re as thrilled about the birth of spring in 2017, these books will satisfy your love for the bright season.

1. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

This children’s story was originally published in June of 1908 and features a stunning quote that describes the essence of spring perfectly:

“Spring was moving in the air above and in the earth below and around him, penetrating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing. … Something up above was calling him.”

How could you not want to immediately go out and enjoy a picnic after reading that?

2. The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I know what you’re probably thinking: “Why is a book with ‘winter’ in the title being mentioned on a spring book list?” Well, fellow book lovers, your confusion will seamlessly melt away after reading through this lovely quote:

“And as they sang, the fear and the suffering of the long winter seemed to rise like a dark cloud and float away on the music. Spring had come. The sun was shining warm, the winds were soft, and the green grass growing.”

How moving. This quote reminds me of the excitement about starting over on a new adventure.

3. Greenwillow by B.J. Chute

As a finalist for the 1957 National Book Awards, Chute’s classic story follows the life and events of the citizens of a small village town by the name of Greenwillow. This magical village “long ago, centuries perhaps … had been stood in the corner and forgotten.” It is a bittersweet story full of love, community, and the healing that can come with spring’s beautiful pieces of Mother Nature.

Set in the chaos of Russian Revolution, Fitzgerald’s novel, often regarded as the best work of her career, contains themes of breaking away from the old and revisioning the unknown and exciting new; very similar to the transition from winter to spring.

The perfect story to read if you love ghost stories but aren’t in the mood for a traditional October/Halloween setting.
