The Ultimate Book Porn: Classic Stories Get Leather Bound Makeovers

I’ve got a serious problem with porn. Book porn, that is. When I’m not surfing the web for it, I’m obsessing over it. I’m constantly thinking about my next purchase of beautiful books. I have a small collection of rare, antique books that was bequeathed to me after my grandparent’s passing, and since, I have tried to grow my collection. But if you’re like me and live on a budget, antiquarian bibliophilia is hardly an affordable hobby. So when I came across Barnes & Noble’s Collectible Editions, I fell in love.

The new Collectible Editions by Barnes & Noble are leather bound, ornately decorated book covers of the classics that revive the lost art of bookbinding. Currently, there are over 200 titles available in the collection, and each book cover is more beautiful than the last. They feature a leather cover, some with raised, gilt lettering, gilded pages in either gold, silver, or pewter, a satin ribbon bookmark and decorative spine with raised cords. And they’re inexpensive! Surprisingly, they range from only around $9 – $22.

Barnes and Noble is continually adding to the collection, and they do so regularly. This year, they have several books still expected. They include titles like, A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne (July 24th), ThLegend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving (September 25th), The Metamorphosis and Other Stories by Franz Kafka (August 29th), and Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (September 29th), among others.

Unfortunately, they haven’t unveiled the covers yet, so I can’t show you a preview. However, they have some really great titles available already. I picked up several when I was perusing Barnes and Noble last weekend and came away with this beautiful copy of The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe. Since, I’ve grown addicted and and can’t stop ordering them!

In addition to the stunning adult classics, they have a set of children’s collectible editions. They’re quite a bit cheaper than their adult counterparts, and run at $9 – $10. Perfect for a children’s room, they’re bright and colorful and would look stunning on a shelf for the little one to enjoy for years to come. Upcoming releases include Aesop’s Fables and Heidi.

So, next time you’re at B & N, make sure to take a look at their Collectible Editions and maybe pick up a few. Not only will you have a beautiful bookshelf, but these babies are true Collectibles. They increase in value. Some titles are already appraised at over $100 online. Now that’s what I call a great book!
