Book dedications are a quiet moment in a book, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t important. They’re an author’s chance to take the Oscars podium, or a concert venue, or any kind of speech without the pomp and circumstance. It’s perfect for us, really.
That being said, a lot of these dedications are just plain weird. Here are some of our favorites.
1. A Rather Sweet One To Start
This one actually gives a lot of food for thought, and its rambling is endearing. Not a bad dedication to have in your name.
2. One That’s A Little Bitter
But let’s be serious, every author writes about THAT person…
3. Family
At least he’s honest!
4. What Did You Just Call Me?
They do call readers voyeurs occasionally…
5. Homage
If you think about it, this one is pretty brilliant. It’s sarcastic, but it’s paying homage to Jane Eyre, Mark Twain, Gulliver’s Travels, and the like as well.
6. Family Again
I’m beginning to see a pattern.
7. Sir
Writers have an odd, particular memory. Be careful of that one.
8. Killed The Cat
You know. Just in case you were curious.
9. Well Then
Not much to say on this one! I guess we all feel the same?
10. Colin Firth
If there’s a time and place for an awkward love confession, it’s now.
11. Grandma
Grandmas. They say the darndest things.
12. Confessions
Ever wonder how to confess to your parents? Reserve some space at the front of your book!
13. How To Deal With Rejection Letters
Rub it in their face. How else do you do it?
14. The Poetic
With a healthy dose of feminism, to boot!
15. And The Bearer Of Bad News
What’s your favorite dedication? What other unusual ones have you seen?
