That’s right, seven of the UK’s best and brightest YA authors are teaming together to bring you one novel, told from seven points of view. Talk about the ultimate co-writing experience! Seven unique voices, coming together to create a singular story. The only hitch, we have to wait until July of 2018 to have Floored in our hands.
So just who is collaborating on this novel? The list is long and grand and includes: Sara Barnard, Holly Bourne, Tanya Byrne, Non Pratt, Melinda Salisbury, Lisa Williamson, and Eleanor Wood. (See, I told you the lineup was fantastic!). We have the chance to get to hear each author’s individual voice as each writes their own unique character.
The book is said to tell the story of six strangers who are bonded together when tragedy strikes. Once a year, six of the characters gather together to mourn/celebrate the person they all lost. This means that one of the above authors is penning the deceased character’s POV that brings all the rest of them together. If that’s not intriguing, I don’t know what is.
Macmillian Children’s Publishing Group picked up Floored, and editorial director Rachel Petty says it’s all due to the UKYA community being so supportive of each other. It sounds like Floored is the perfect collaboration to bring that feeling to life in a fairly unorthodox way.
It’s obvious that Floored is going to be unlike anything that we’ve ever read before. Even better, the powerhouse authors working on the project seem to be just as excited about it. I, for one, can’t wait to see how seven voices are edited into one story, and I know that I’ll be picking this one up as soon as it hits shelves. Even if that is over a year away…
