Megan Shepherd Brings A Dark Twist To The World Of Fairy Tales

If you’re a fan of fairytales, Paris, and Megan Shepherd’s atmospheric writing, I’ve got news for you. Megan Shepherd, who’s responsible for both of the YA series The Madman’s Daughter, and The Cage, is releasing a brand new duology. Sure the first novel, which is going to be called Grim Lovelies, won’t be released until 2018, but the fact that it’s going to be a series is exciting, nonetheless! The books will be released by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

The series isn’t going to focus on the main characters in well known fairy tales, but instead is going to focus on the background characters that no one really pays attention to. And to make it even more interesting, the book (or books) will be set in contemporary Paris. A Paris filled with magic, and the magic-users who pull all the strings from the backstage wings.

But don’t take my word for it, here is the press release from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt:

“Set in contemporary Paris, a society of magic handlers called the Haute control everything from what jewelry catches our eye to where wars are fought. But this centuries-old system is about to be turned upside down: not by one of the city’s powerful witches, but by a witch’s maid. In a beautiful Parisian townhouse, Anouk sweeps the floors. Years ago her mistress enchanted animals into human servants, called beasties: a driver, a gardener, a thief, an assassin, and a maid — Anouk. When their mistress is murdered they only have three days before the spell fades and they turn back into animals forever, unless they can find a last desperate way to hold on to their humanity.”

After reading that, I can’t wait for Grim Lovelies to release.

Until then, here are other Megan Shepherd books to add to your TBR.
