Do you enjoy a brooding gentleman who also happens to be tall, dark, and handsome, and not without extreme amounts of wit? If you answered yes, then allow me to introduce you to my newest book boyfriend, Thomas Cresswell. You see, Thomas is a character out of Kerri Maniscalco‘s debut novel, Stalking Jack the Ripper. And though he may be the secondary lead to Audrey Rose Wadsworth, he still manages to shine brightly, even on the darkest London streets.
He’s dashing, he’s debonair, he’s full of snarky wit, he’ll leave you laughing, and leave you suspense. Could it be that Thomas is in fact Jack the Ripper himself? Or is he just another piece of the game? Is there a sinister reason as to why he shuts his emotions off so easily? Why is he also apprenticing under Audrey Rose’s uncle, and helping the two of them perform autopsies in his lab? These are all legitimate questions, but one thing is for sure, he’s not turned off by the fact that Audrey Rose isn’t afraid of blood, and he isn’t always trying to protect her when she puts herself in positions of danger.
Kerri Maniscalco has created the perfect dream boat in the character of Thomas. He seems like he could have stepped out of an old English alleyway and right into the pages of her novel. In fact, all of her characters feel that way. Stalking Jack the Ripper uses the real life Jack the Ripper murders and many other historical facts (all of which Maniscalco deftly twists for her own purposes) to propel the story, and gives us an ending in which we discover whether or not my newest book boyfriend is actually a cold blooded killer or not.
If you enjoy a good who-done-it, stories of murder built on historical fact, and handsome gentlemen who aren’t turned off by a strong, independent woman (insert Destiny’s Child lyrics here) Stalking Jack the Ripper is a book you should add to your Christmas List, ASAP!
