If you haven’t made Halloween plans yet, don’t worry: you may be able to spend it acting out one of the most famous horror novels of all time.
Thanks to Airbnb, you can enter a contest to spend the night in Dracula‘s castle in Transylvania on October 31. If you win, you and one lucky (hopefully brave) guest will get to sleep in the very castle that serves as the home of Bram Stoker’s gothic vampire villain in Dracula.
The medieval structure, officially known as Bran Castle, was once the home of Vlad the Impaler, the frightening inspiration for the Dracula legend. The Airbnb listing offers a chilling description of what the guests will experience:
“A horse-drawn carriage carries you swiftly through Transylvania as the sun sets towards the horizon, heralding the hours of swooping bats and howling wolves. When you come around the final bend on the tree-lined road, you’ll catch a glimpse of Bran Castle. This misty mountain-top manor is home for the night. The chill that suddenly fills the carriage is not the evening mist, it’s a fear older than the forests now grown up around the castle rock. This is the lair of vampires, and you cannot leave until dawn.”
Dacre Stoker, a descendent of Bram himself, will act as host for the lucky winners. His message to contestants on the Airbnb listing reads:
“I am Dacre Stoker, the great grandnephew of Bram Stoker, author of the legendary Dracula novel. I am a vampire expert and passionate advocate of my great grand-uncle’s novel. Bran Castle is where the legend of Dracula was born and I am thrilled to welcome and guide you through the dark passages of the castle for a private unveiling of its many mysteries.”
Stoker will be playing the role of Jonathan Harker from Dracula on the night of Halloween. The winners will have free reign to explore the castle’s fifty-seven rooms, and they’ll enjoy a dinner of chicken paprikash, prepared according to a meal described in the novel. And best (or most frightening) of all, they will sleep in velvet-lined coffins. House rules forbid garlic, silver, mirror selfies, making any cross symbols, and leaving the curtains open before sunrise.
The contest’s deadline is October 26th. To enter, simply sign into your Airbnb account and answer one question: What would you say to Dracula himself if you encountered him at Bran Castle? Good luck!
