Sure, not all book nerds are created equal. But we do have a few universal similarities that make us some of the best friends to have around. Here are 6 of the most important reasons your squad wouldn’t be complete unless it was constantly waiting for the book nerd to finish “just one more chapter”:
1. We’re Really Good At Rolling With The Punches
We tend to live life hoping for prepared for plot twists to pop out at any moment. If our lives were suddenly to take a romantic, or adventurous, or mysterious twist, we would never freeze. In fact, we would start turning the pages faster to discover where our narrative is headed. (While getting our squad equally pumped for the adventures, of course).
2. You’ll Never Be At A Loss For A Good Quote
“Well this reminds me of that one quote from…” – A Bookworms Go-To Response In Any Situation. Because who doesn’t love a good quote? If someone was able to form words so perfectly into a concept to address a given predicament, who are we to pass them up?
“You’ve got the look of a girl who’s no stranger to the page. I can tell. You’ve got words in your soul.”
― Jay Kristoff, Nevernight
3. If You Ever Feel Like Staying In, You’ll Have A Buddy
Throw out the idea of staying in to your book-nerd friend and we are almost guaranteed to take you up on it. Hanging out and watching movies before curling up in bed, novel in hand, next to your bestie and their own book? Count us in.
4. We Will Open Your Eyes To New Ideas
When we commit to a new book, we commit to immersing ourselves so completely in the mind of its main character that we lose a little bit of touch with ourselves. So we’ve gotten quite good at seeing the world from many vastly different points of view. This makes us great at (subtly) pointing out when you’re being narrow-minded or introducing you to interesting new ideas any time we can.
5. You’ll Always Know What To Read On Vacation
We understand you don’t tear through books quite the same way we do, and that most of your reading takes place once or twice a year on vacation. So when you ask us what to read on the plane or the beach, you’ll have a personal literary concierge who knows you well, and has recently read something we can guarantee you’ll love.
6. We Are Inevitably A Good Writer (Or At Least Know Bad Writing When We See It)
It doesn’t matter how good a story is.. if it’s poorly written, it’s like eating a gourmet meal cooked by a 3-year-old. The bookworm of your friends has spent enough time reading that all it takes is a quick shuffle through a chapter to gage the quality of its writing. This makes us the perfect cover letter editor or ‘thank you’ card writer you could ever ask for.
