Book Review: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

It was  just a few months ago I had the urge to read books again. It’s not like my thirst for books ended or anything drastic, though there was a day I was just told myself: reading is a must-do agenda on my list. Hence, this particular book caught my attention.

I was afraid Eleanor & Park would be too much of a normal old teen love story, but I decided to read it anyway. After finishing one of the most talked about young adult novels in the past few years, boy was I satisfied and happy in the end.

Rowell put so much thought in this book and crafted it so delicately that a profoundly honest voice was brought to life. The love stories that we are most familiar with, alas the classic Romeo and Juliet, are definitely stereotypical. I mean the hot guy always gets the most beautiful girl in school right? Then you have the other not so pretty girls, being dumped to the side along with the nerds and probably the goths and creepy looking teens. Well this book is the total opposite!

I really enjoyed this book because it broke that social stereotype. It’s about modern day love that stands true and recognizes that looks are not everything in a relationship. Eleanor & Park has definitely caught the attention of young readers all over the world. Hats off to you Rowell!

Eleanor is a red head who is not exactly the prom queen type and dresses very differently from the average high schooler. Park, on the other hand, is a handsome and perfect young lad whom everyone adores. They first meet on the school bus, started sharing their personal interests in comics and music that develops into a kind of special friendship that, eventually, blossoms into young romance.

Its amazing how Rowell intricately describes each character from start to the end. This novel definitely leaves you thinking. If not so, reminiscing of the good old teen years.

I really hope they make a movie out of this book! It would be really cool to watch Eleanor & Park come to life on the big screen.

For those of you who have read this book tell us what you think! For those who have yet to read this modern romance classic don’t wait too long!
