1. I Forgot To Feed My (Insert Species of Pet Here)
Fish, dog, cat, parrot, tiger, miniature money, turtle, ferret, the lists goes on for centuries. Note: please don’t purposefully forget to feed your pet to make this excuse have some merit. They look forward to their meals just like we do.

2. Everyday I Have To Read To My (Insert Family Member Here) At (Insert Very Specific Time) or They Get Really Sad
This one would probably actually do you some good. You’ll get sympathetic looks from people and they’ll pat your shoulder and tell you “You’re such a good person! Go on, and enjoy reading time with your (insert family member).”

3. I Have A Huge Project I Have to Get Done Before Midnight
Okay, maybe this one is a little less exotic than the others, but there is a reason it’s been a go to for years in getting out of weird, unpleasant situations.

4. I’m An Introvert And I’ve Had Enough Social Interaction For Today
If they’re your real friends, they’ll nod, tell you they’ll see you later and you’ll be free for the day without hurting anyone’s feelings.

Pretty self-explanatory. No good person would dare keep you away from your favorite television show. And if they do, they don’t have your best interest at heart.

Only for the brave of heart. Surely, you’ll get some not so friendly looks from loved ones, but I guarantee you they’ll let you leave without any lip.

7. I Have A Date
Another legitimate excuse. It’s not too out there, and could easily be believed unless your friends just laugh at you and tell you to shut up.(-_-).
On the other hand, if you really work to make it believable (have a name, basic info, place where the date is already lined up in your head), this one could work.

8. (Insert Title of New Book Here) Just Came Out And I’ve Been Wanting To Read it Forever!
Chances are, if most of the people in your inner circle are also bookworms, they’ll understand immediately (and honestly, you won’t have to use any of these excuses in the first place!). But for argument’s sake, if the group/person you’re with still won’t let you off the hook, began to plead and start up the waterworks. Add a few hard sobs in there for merit.

9. I Have To Pee
An oldy but a goodey. Whenever your friends text or call you asking why you’re taking so long, wait at least 20 minutes and simply explain that on your way to the bathroom, you accidentally ran into a brick wall and lost all memory of what you were doing. Go on to explain that you must get home immediately to aid your aching headache.

10. I Don’t Want To Be Here And I Want To Go Home And Read
Okay, well if you want to be extremely direct with your excuse, this would be a good one. It’s a little mean, but honest nonetheless. Caution: you may not be invited out as much by the person/group you just ditched, but hey, if they don’t understand your love of reading time, you need a new group of friends anyway.
