August is spinning faster and faster and in no time, the kiddos will be back in school, learning about everything from Shakespeare to the Pythagorean Theorem, and if it’s your little one’s very first day of school, they’ll be filled with all kinds of emotions as they anticipate what the big school will be like. To get the little types encouraged and to further remind them of the greatness that is education and learning, give these following bubbly reads a go:
1. Kindergarten, Here I Come! by D.J. Steinburg
A perfect novel that depicts the in’s and out’s of a child’s first day of kindergarten! Give them a sneak peek of snack time, reading time, and all other exciting activities that will await them on their first day.
2. The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing
Told in the likeness of the cherished Christmas classic, The Night Before Christmas, The Night Before Kindergarten will have you and your little one fully intrigued of all the new experiences, friends, and moments that await them on their first day of classroom learning.
3. Dear Teacher by Amy Husband
When a very nervous boy named Michael writes a letter to his teacher explaining why he might be late for his first day of school, he is blatantly surprised to receive a letter back from her! Soon, a touching and sweet correspondence occurs between the young boy and his teacher and Michael soon realizes that maybe school won’t be so scary after all. An ideal read if your child or young ones are particularly frightened about beginning school.
4. Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary
You have probably heard about the many adventures of Ramona Quinby, a spunky, unique girl who is always up for getting her nose in everyone’s business. In Ramona the Pest, author Beverly Cleary takes us along for the ride of Ramona as she practically bursts with excitement about starting Kindergarten.
5. Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus by Barbara Park
Junie B. Jones is one of my all time favorite book characters. She always says exactly what’s on her inquisitive mind, doesn’t take nonsense from anyone, and is always bound to bring a smile to your face when you’re upset. Join Junie in her first story that includes all her complaints, thoughts and ideas about what awaits her new school.
I hope these books offer some cheerfulness to any first day jitters!
