5 Books To Kick Back With Over Any Weekend

Weekends can either be ones that we dread because we sense our future death of absolute boredom, or a time happily looked forward to to sit back, relax and not have to worry about things for at least 48 hours. If you’re already in the mood to plan your weekend and have decided to spend it with a novel (YAY!) here are five suggestions that’ll keep it chill, interesting, and all the more worry free.

1. Diane Arbus: Portrait of a Photographer by Arthur Lubow

Hers may not be a name that you immediately recognize, though Diane Arbus is remembered as being one of the most talented photographers in the world. Her memorable works are showcased at the Metropolitan Museum of New York’s Breuer Gallery and often captured the abnormal of the world such as very small people, society’s outcasts, and overweight nudists. Sadly, Arbus took her own life in 1971 at the prime age of 48, though her artistic influence has not flickered out in the slightest.

Tune into this exciting historical novel that explores the early days of British radio in London, 1926. Remarkable!

3. Once a Cop by Corey Pegues

A very interesting read that would do us all well to read in the face of all the brutality among people of color and law enforcement officers. Corey Pegues is a black man himself, who also spent his career as a police officer. In his book, he leaves no area covered and talks openly about his perspective on the matter.

4. Trials of the Earth: The True Story of a Pioneer Woman by Mary Mann Hamilton

This is a heavy, though incredibly inspiring memoir following a woman who helped ease and settle the Mississippi Delta (the northwest section of Mississippi situated between the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers) during the 19th century.
