Book Review: My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares

From the bestselling author of The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants, Ann Brashares has once again created a beautiful piece. Hands down this is the best, and only love story you will will remember reading for a long while.

Being a sucker for love stories it wasn’t by coincidence that I bumped into this book at the bookstore. I picked it up, read the back and bought it without thinking twice.

If you are a total fan of love stories, soul mates, and all things romantic this novel will be your ultimate weakness.

This story follows Daniel, a boy who has the ability to recognize the souls of the people from his previous life. He has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl, Sophia (although her name constantly changes). He remembers everything. The first time they met, ages ago during the war, and every other day, year, and century after that.

Daniel and Sophia always seem to find each other no matter what life they’re currently in. However, the most gripping part is the fact that they are always torn apart in the end. Timing is never in favor of their love, that is, until the very end.

Brashares has intricately detailed each part of their lives with such intensity and emotion that it left me turning each page with hope and tears. I loved the way she depicted the reality of love and how, true love never really dies. Call it a stereotypical mushy gushy love story, though it is an intriguing novel with a modern, original twist. This book really encapsulates every inch of the reader’s heart.

Is it possible to fall in love with the same person over and over again, in different lifetimes? It would be really nice to know that the person you are in love with now, or married to, was once your soulmate in another lifetime wouldn’t it?
